The Toyota Camry body 40 is a popular Japanese business sedan, produced from 2006 to 2011 and now found only on the aftermarket. Due to its reliability and popularity, even a used car can cost $8,000 to $10,000, although a new one sold for $30,000 to $40,000 at one time. In 2009, the car has been restyled, which changed a little bit its exterior and interior. And in 2011, instead of XV40, automaker Toyota began producing a new version of Camry in the 50th body.

The car turned out to be more than recognisable in appearance. With its long and wide body, large wheelbase and voluminous shapes, the Camry XV40 is hard to mistake for any other car. Other noteworthy exterior features include:

the stylish radiator grille with the original design;

the small window area, especially compared to the voluminous body;

the updated front optics compared to the 30th body.

In 2009, a restyled version of the sedan appeared. The updated car received turn signals on the side mirrors, chrome striping on the trunk lid, redesigned front bumper and grille. Dimensions of Toyota remained unchanged - 4.805 meters in length, 1.47 meters in height (2 cm lower than XV30) and 1.82 meters in width (2.5 cm wider than the previous version). And the cabin has increased thanks to the increased to 2.775 m wheelbase.

Interior

The interior of the car corresponds to its class, being distinguished by a good design and quality materials. The large steering wheel has buttons for audio control, temperature control and route computer. The central console has a solid look and convenient location of elements - a stereo system for basic versions and a multimedia screen for top versions. Soft plastic with metallic inserts, quality fabric and leather for the most expensive versions are among the materials, used for trimming.

The front seats are spacious and comfortable for passengers and drivers of all sizes and have a good range of adjustment. Rear row is characterized by soft filling and formlessness, allowing to seat three people with maximum comfort. In the expensive configurations, the backrests of the seats can tilt up to 8 degrees.

Technical characteristics of the Camry xv40

Toyota both 2006 and 2011 were equipped with two petrol engines:

The first, a 2.4-litre with a revised cylinder head compared to the previous version. Power output has been increased by 9 hp and now the XV40 has 167 hp. Fuel consumption has been reduced to 8.5 liters per 100 km in combined mode and up to 11.6 liters in city mode. Acceleration time to a hundred is 9.1 seconds.

The second engine has 3.5 litres and output of 277 hp. This motor allows accelerating the car faster - in 7 seconds. True, the consumption has increased, which averages about 9.9 seconds.

The volume of luggage in the XV40 is 534 litres in basic versions and 504 litres in top versions. The boot space can be adjusted by reclining the rear seats. However, on the cars with non-adjustable backrests they can be folded down. Ground clearance is standard for a city sedan - 155 mm, the same as in the more modern Camry.

The car is distinguished by a high level of safety. First of all, due to installation of ABS and EBD systems, emergency braking booster, belt pretensioners and overload limiters even on basic versions. And also - safety curtains, front and side airbags.

Top versions are equipped with additional active systems - traction control and directional stability. The model has been tested in compliance with NCAP standards with 5 stars out of 5.

Toyota Camry xv 40 rivals

Thanks to its elegant and easily recognizable exterior, the 40-body Camry has gained a certain reputation. That's why one of the model's main rivals on the market, the Nissan Teana, was in less demand, even though it beat the Camry in terms of equipment. The same can be said of the Kia Magentis and Hyundai Sonata, which are more favourable, but South Korean, and therefore not as popular.

Another rival is the Opel Insignia, which, despite its smaller size, is also well equipped. But it can't really compete with the Camry - not because of its less spacious interior and worse dynamics.

In 2006, the car was available in five options. The restyled Camry XV40 has got a new version - Elegance Plus. The list of options for each sedan variant includes:

Nevertheless, it is possible to buy this vehicle at secondary market for about $8000-10000, depending on a complete set, mileage and technical condition.
