Greetings all, yes indeed - it's a tough choice, isn't it? For nearly five years our company has been selecting used cars. Not so long ago, we received a rather interesting application. The guy is 34 and has been driving a new Camry for 10 years. In March, Toyota pleased with the release of a new modification of its flagship, and he decided to change cars. The question became what to buy: a new Camry or a 2-3 year old BMW 5 series. Budget - up to 27 000 dollars.
As for Camry - everything is quite simple: you come and buy it, no problems, you get a new car, they are liquid, high quality, but... It's a very popular car, the dealers impose a lot of additional equipment, it's almost impossible to avoid buying it. Additional equipment is a very marginal product for showrooms, there will be a demand and a queue in the near future anyway, that's why dealers impose them so brazenly.
Toyota Camry eighth generation
1️. Minuses of Camry: the new modification 2021, instead of automatic on the two-litre motor will now have a variator. These boxes are not loved by everyone, they are not good in our conditions, you can't slip on them at all, plus the car will be specifically slow, if the variator fails - repair will be very expensive. It can also affect price and liquidity when sold on the secondary market later on. From experience, we can say that Toyota Corolla variators are not in much demand, either new or used. While the previous Camry got cheaper very slowly, the price will seriously drop in 2-3 years because of the variator. On the 2.5 litre engine, fortunately Toyota will keep the classic automatic. Camry, of course, is a popular car, but there are a lot of disadvantages: they have thin metal, not very good dynamics, the quality of materials in BMW is an order of magnitude higher. Maneuverability: five will handicap everyone in its class, and Toyota in this section absolutely does not stand out. The Camry has bad noise isolation, the headlights sweat a lot. Also Toyota suffers from low-quality interior elements: glove box, glasses holder, armrests become loose after a while.

The paintwork of Japanese is also far from ideal. Music, the BMW will have better. The BMW 5 Series has some all-wheel drive modifications, the Camry only has front-wheel drive. BMW's diesel, despite its terrific reliability, is quite loud, looking at the modern silhouette and generally harmonious appearance it's hard to believe that such a pretty car makes a sound not much better than that of a tractor. BMW, in inexpensive options, may have alcantara and perforated leather, but the seats will move backwards and forwards mechanically. The Toyota has a lot more options than the A's budget specs. Keyless access and heated windshield, emergency braking, electronic adjustment of seats - all this in Toyota will be even in not expensive complete set, in comparison with it, the interior of basic BMW will look like the car of a much lower class.

2️. Now to the search problems. A used BMW 5 series will be hard to find. For some reason there are a lot of people driving these cars, even 2017 - 2018 cars have mileage of 220,000 - 250,000 kilometres, with the price, often exceeding. As a rule, such cars have combined leather: half of seat - cloth, along edges - leather inserts.
Now to the pros of BMW 5-series, they are also enough: dynamics will be much higher than in Camry, steerability - BMW 5 in general is number one in E-class. The car will not become cheaper in the secondary market too, though Toyota loses in price over the years just a little bit. The 5 also has a nice and modern dashboard, much more technologically advanced than the Camry. The screen is sluggish, even in the very recent Toyota modification. BMW will give the driver absolutely other sensations and pleasure of driving and owning in general (more frequent visits to service are not taken into account), than Toyota. In course of communication we have seen that our client is fed up with quiet life, and the Toyota for 10 years is simply bored with him. We explained that if he is inclined to BMW, there will be difficulties with selection:
- while studying the Moscow market, we saw general trends: the owners of these cars like to drive fast, the mileage is also high. A 2018-2019 BMW 5 Series with less than 100,000km mileage is hard to find, there are a few options on websites, but all need to be seen in person. Finding a good BMW 5 (maximum one owner, all in factory paint, factory windows, no errors on blocks and modules, mileage under 60,000km) is a near impossible task.
BMW 7 series G11, diesel
BMW 5 is a quality car overall, the running gear is virtually unkillable, often only breaking down when not serviced, in accordance with the manufacturer's regulations. Unlike the Toyota, you get a lot more fun behind the wheel in the BMW. Another indisputable advantage of BMW over its Japanese classmate will be the appearance and presence of a badge on a cowl, indicating the belonging of the car to premium. In service everything is not so expensive, as many think. It is still a mystery to us that such expensive by standards cars like BMW 5 and Mercedes E-class can be destroyed in a couple of years. It is not clear what is the reason for this attitude?
BMW 5- serie's F10
Also in a solid budget of 2700000 roubles, we recommended the customer to look at the BMW 7 G11 diesel. For the same money, the owner gets a rich package, with good leather, lots of options, panoramic sunroof or sunroof, and a more comfortable and upscale business sedan. These cars are three-four years old, and they have already fallen in price at most on the secondary market, they will continue to fall in price very slowly, but you will not find such budgetary options, as in five-series cars. The BMW 5-series is more popular than the sevens, so the price is almost the same, although the new sevens are twice as expensive. The 7-series will have much lower mileage, these cars are driven more quietly and carefully.
BMW 7-Series
In general, if you have the time and desire and a firm intention to buy a BMW with mileage, you need to look for exactly the good option, if there is no such desire, you can take a Camry, you will sleep better. We warned the customer that if they opt for a BMW 5-series, they are likely to have more service visits, plus the new Camry is under warranty.
