Camry wheels: tyre and rim sizes, axle sizes, bores

Wheels are a significant element of the car. Wheel size and design are an important component of the car's appearance. The height of the tyre profile affects the smoothness of ride, handling and longevity of the suspension. Tyre adhesion is a major safety component. Low-quality tyres will cause excessive interior noise at high speeds. Let's consider these characteristics in relation to the wheels of Toyota Camry models V50, V40, V30.

Parameters of factory casting XV50: Centre bore diameter - DIA: 60.1 mm, hub mounting - nut, dimension 5×114.3 mm, thread M12 x 1.5

17 - 7Jx17 et 45

18 - 7.5X18 ET45

Let us explain what these letters and numbers mean. The first number is indicated for better understanding. First digit after dash (6.5, 7, 7.5) is width, measured in inches, to convert to centimeters, multiply this figure by 2.54.

J - reports the constructional properties of the wheel, and is not important for buyers.

x indicates that the disk is not split.

16 is the seat diameter and corresponds to the diameter of the tyre.

ET45 is the offset of the wheel, in this case it is positive and equals 45mm.

The important parameter is DIA (diameter of centre hole in Camry 50 is 60.1 mm), which should correspond to the wheel hub seating, measured in millimeters. If the DIA is larger than the hub, wheel alignment rings are used, supplied by the rim manufacturer.

Camry 50 (5x114.3) is the number of wheel mounts and diameter in millimetres at which the holes for bolts or nuts (PCD) are made.

Two casting variants for Camry are officially available in our market: R16 and R17. R18 rims are offered by the manufacturer in North America.

Selection of rims with non-standard parameters

The last option is to purchase a wheel that differs in one or more parameters. This case is only suitable for those who compromise on their Toyota. A larger or smaller wheel diameter with a larger centre bore would then be the right choice. It will not be a problem to have a different offset or a wider width.

The only parameter that may not be changed is the PCD. The reason for this is that the mounting holes must always coincide exactly with the seats in the machine. The maximum possible diameter to be purchased is 20 inches.

Wheel offset can vary from 35 to 45 mm. For easier reference, we can say that the wheel specification is the same as that of the Lexus ES250.

It's not unreasonable to say that by introducing such wheels, you run the risk of causing the car to malfunction. And the steering unit will be at direct risk of failure. When fitting a new casting, ensure that the stud is damaged. It is quite common for the stud head to shear off, causing the braking system to malfunction.

Let's explain what these numbers mean. The first three-digit number before the slash is the tyre profile width, measured in millimetres. The two-digit number after the slash is the aspect ratio, expressed as a percentage. If the section width is 215 and the section height is 60, then 215x0.65=129mm is the section height of the tyre. Latin letter R (Radial) says that the tyre is of radial type (radial type of car tyres has replaced archaic diagonal one). Two-digit number after R gives information about tyre's rim diameter and is measured in inches.

The last two-digit number is the tyre load index, i.e. how much load the tyre can carry within the speed index at the correct pressure. For Toyota Camry 50 rubber, the load index is 93 and 94, these numbers tell us that each can handle 650 and 670kg respectively. The last Latin letter is the speed index, the speed range within which the tyres can be used. In the case of the Camry, the speed index is indicated by the letters S to V. S is 180 km/h, V is 240 km/h.

Tyre pressure should be between 2.2 and 2.4 bars.

The smallest tyres that will fit Camry XV50 is 205/65R16, the maximum size of rubber - 225/40R19.

When choosing tyres for your car, ask the dealer or look at the date of manufacture on the tyres yourself. Do not buy tyres older than three years, after that date they may start to crack and lose their properties.

Alternatives

Dezent

This is the best option in terms of price and quality on the market. The German company Dezent pays maximum attention to the creation of quality products: at each stage of creation the drive undergoes serious tests. The Dezent range includes 20 designs with sizes from R14 to R22.

Enkei

Since the Camry is a Japanese car, many will want to buy Japanese products for it, and Enkei is the best option among them. This company, in addition to the free sale is engaged in supplying for most Japanese cars (including Toyota). The company has created its own casting and hardening technology that allows you to leave the strength at the highest level, but at the same time reduce the weight by 15 percent.
