The Toyota Camry 2022 sedan requires no separate introduction. The model has a proven track record of reliability and is popular around the world. Will the proven formula for success help the auto market legend hold its own in 2022? Find out in our review of the Toyota Camry!
Four doors, a large trunk and plenty of room for the family - that's all you need from a modern midsize sedan. The Toyota Camry offers a spacious interior, a roomy trunk, and - bonuses in the form of excellent safety features and striking design. Plus, the resale price of a Toyota Camry is always high. Add to that a big plus for our winters in the form of available all-wheel drive, which most midsize sedans don't have. These advantages are enough to buy a Toyota Camry. Unless, of course, that's the type of body you're looking for.
New or used car?
The only change to the 2022 Camry lineup has to do with the way its models look. Unlike the previous season, the Nightshade appearance package (which adds black wheels and dark-colored accents) can now be fitted to hybrid models. All models in the lineup will be equipped with LED headlights and taillights. The base LE model will get 17-inch wheels, SE and XLE models will get 18-inch wheels, and XSE and TRD models will get 19-inch wheels.
Technical parameters remained unchanged, so you can look at used Toyota Camry options.
Toyota Camry or Honda Accord
The sedan market has gotten smaller over the years because of the countless popular crossovers. And those that still exist have to fight for the attention of the modern buyer. The Camry and Accord are acknowledged leaders in the segment, but which one is worthy of your hard-earned thousands? First, both sedans are rated high for safety. The Camry's interior pales slightly in comparison to the Accord's interior, while the latter offers more space and comfort. Still, the Honda Accord wins the battle due to lower fuel consumption, a better base engine, a more refined interior, and practicality.
Toyota Camry or Mazda6 Sedan
The Mazda 6 and the Camry are another battle between established and respected sedans. In terms of space and comfort, the Camry offers a bit more. Also, the Toyota outperforms the Mazda in fuel economy. However, the Mazda6 behaves more maneuverable due to its smaller turning radius. In terms of actual numbers, the Camry offers higher horsepower, but lags behind in torque. However, the Mazda lacks a powerful engine, while the Camry allows for a V6. Both are excellent options, so choosing the best car depends on personal preference.
Interior
The Camry fully complies with the status of a five-seater car. The seats in the front and rear are comfortable enough for long trips.
The interior of the updated Toyota Camry 2022 is modern and stylish, but the gap in the quality of the materials used between the lower and top versions is too noticeable. The interiors of the entry-level versions are filled with hard plastic, but all parts are nicely fitted. Higher levels boast soft-touch elements and leather upholstery.
The Camry's carrying capabilities are pretty solid. The trunk volume of 427 liters is a good indicator for this class. The cargo compartment has a wide opening with a small lifting height. The 60/40 split rear seat can easily be folded with the help of the handles installed in the trunk.
There's also plenty of hidden storage space in the cabin: a pull-out compartment under the wireless charger, a drawer in the center armrest, and a small compartment on the far left side of the dash. Camry buyers with kids will appreciate the easily accessible car seat mounts.
The Toyota Camry's multimedia offers a convenient and simple Entune interface, standard 7-inch and optional 9-inch touchscreens, and plenty of large, well-organized physical buttons, including several duplicates mounted on the steering wheel. Camry smartphone integration includes standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto.
All 2021 Camry models come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This is an impressive array of standard driver assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist.
Specifications.
When you choose your Toyota Camry 2022, you have two powertrain options. All LE, SE, and XLE models get the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, although power output varies slightly depending on transmission choice. LE and SE models produce 203 hp with front-wheel drive and 202 hp with AWD. The same concept applies to the XSE. In the FWD guise, the XSE develops 206 hp, in AWD it produces 205 hp.
The 3.5-liter V6 provides the Camry with significantly more power, 301 hp.
Both the base powertrain and the optional V6 are paired with an eight-speed automatic.
As you can see, the Toyota Camry's performance characteristics range from boring emotions to true thrills. It all depends on which model you choose. The base version gains the first "100 km/h" on the speedometer in 7.3 seconds, the car with a 3.6-liter motor - in 5.8 seconds.
The Camry's fuel consumption also depends on whether you choose the base engine or the V6. The most economical option will be the LE kit with a 2.5-liter motor, which spends an average of 7.4 l/100 km. The status of "voracious" gets TRD with the index 9.4 l/100 km, although it is not much for such a powerful engine.
The new Toyota Camry 2022 provides comfortable daily driving, although road noise levels are higher than most competitors, and ride comfort is far from the best in its class.
Safety
The new Toyota Camry 2022 received the highest 5/5 scores in NHTSA crash tests.
Dimensions and weight
The length of the Camry car is about 4.9 meters. Curb weight depends on the equipment and ranges from 1,501 kg to 1,626 kg.
Possible configurations
The 2022 Camry lineup includes six trims, namely LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XSE, XLE and TRD.
