The Toyota Camry is a real idol in Europe. They say the car just doesn't break down. And the car seems to be the leader in its class forever. But now the Japanese have ripened to restyling. Will it help against the Koreans?

That even after a restyling, changes in appearance should be looked for with a dog. And all changes bring boredom - Japanese as if are afraid to change something in the car.

But is it possible to name it a full-fledged restyling? The most significant change at the back is four parking sensors. What a progress!

And it sticks out from the forward panel as a foreign body. Usually, they change the graphics together with new multimedia. But the graphics here are very dull. And such economy is incomprehensible. After all, it doesn't cost anything to update the software and make it more interesting. And the navigation maps are old. Although who uses them at all? Everything on the phone is much more accurate now. Fortunately, the phone can be connected to the onboard multimedia. Thank the Japanese for that.
The sedan with the new power unit - two-liter engine and a variator was on test drive at the Ministry of Transport. We shall remind you that the old version with a 6-speed automatic was very slow. Now the situation has improved. Atmospheric four quickly accelerates to working revolutions - it has higher torque. CONFIDENT ACCELERATION STARTS FROM 4400 AND GOES UP TO ABOUT 4900 RPM. It turns out, that variator constantly maintains high revolutions and diligently imitates work of a usual automatic device. And this causes questions to its service life. Probably, the unit will not live long at such loads.

With the new engine, the 150 hp sedan certainly hasn't become a rocket. But it doesn't become sluggish on a motorway either. Overtaking is easier. But if to press the pedal to the floor it becomes very noisy inside. You can plug your ears. The engine used to be so quiet.

The engine of 2,5 liters has got increase of efficiency up to 200 horsepowers, and an 8-speed automatic device is pairing it. Previously, this sedan had a six-speed gearbox.
But the most interesting in our view is the 2L engine under the bonnet of this car. It has an aluminium cylinder block, hydro-compensators and dual fuel injection. The timing is a chain. Approximate resource - 200-20 thousand kilometres. Compression ratio is 13:1. At that 92th petrol is recommended for this motor. Therefore, it is better to fill it up with verified petrol stations. A VARIATOR IS NOW WORKING TOGETHER WITH THIS MOTOR. Japanese have dared to put such ambiguous transmission. But there is a cold calculation here. The variator is also familiar from Toyota RAV4 crossover. The variator has mechanical first and back gears. Such design is necessary not to destroy the box at sudden starts and slipping in mud. In theory, it should improve reliability. It will be possible to know how it will turn out in reality, only after many years of run.
Will your favourite Japanese car let you down?
The updating has not affected a suspension. Therefore, adequate steerability has not disappeared anywhere - it is pleasant to steer the car. However, THOSE WHO HAVE THE HAPPENED TO DRIVE FAST LIKE THE CAMRY. In fact, the sedan has no hint at sports character - the Camry is intended for comfort. Certainly, if to start a turn, there will be longitudinal and lateral roll, but within the limits of reasonable for the cars of a business sedan class. The front suspension uses McPherson struts and the rear is a multi-linker arrangement.
Kia Saltos - is it really the bomb?
The electric power steering has been placed on the rack, this fact gives quite good steerability. But there is a disadvantage in it - the unit can be flooded if you drive over an ordinary puddle - so it's better not to drive into them.
Camry has always been the comfortable car for a passenger. It remains such - there is a lot of space behind and even a large person will not be constrained. Well, the fact that there is a big tunnel in legs is not a trouble - in fact, a sofa here, in fact, is only for two people. By the way, there are two variants of a rear sofa in Camry - with electric adjustable back, which is not folded. There is also a usual variant, where the backrest is split, and its parts can be folded. The aperture into the cabin is rather wide, but it is narrowed at the top. Therefore something big and big will not fit in the car. But, let's say, mountain skis can be transported without problems.

The result. 2021 Toyota Camry has few updates. Probably, it is special conservatism peculiar to Japanese when it comes to the bestsellers. They say that only admirers of the brand - a target audience - waited for updates. Probably, they will receive everything with pleasure. But it will not attract new customers. So, soon a situation can occur when only state officials and fans will buy Camry. In order to develop and to go forward it is necessary to expand audience, to offer new design, advanced technical decisions. Toyota Camry lacks all this.
