The new 2019 Toyota Camry is based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global modular platform. The output of this unit is 206 hp and 249 Nm, and on the XSE version - 209 hp and 252 Nm. At low loads, the engine can switch to the economical Atkinson cycle, consuming 7.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in the mixed mode.
The four-door can also be ordered with an upgraded 3.6-liter V6 engine, which now also has a combined fuel injection, and the compression ratio was increased to 11.8:1 instead of the previous 10.8:1. The output of this engine has increased to 305 hp and 362 Nm, while average fuel consumption was reduced to 9.0 liters per hundred.
Both engines operate in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic Direct Shift, but the transmission has different ratios for each unit. In the U.S. and Japan, the model has a hybrid modification.
The power plant of the hybrid consists of a new 2.5-liter gasoline engine, derated to 178 horsepower, and electric motor rated at 143 hp (270 Nm). Total efficiency of units makes 211 "horses". In the base version of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the electric motor is powered by a 1.04 kWh lithium-ion battery, while the top version is powered by a 1.6 kWh hydride metal battery.
